Prof. Henryk Witała wins Faddeev Medal
Prof. Henryk Witała from Jagiellonian University was awarded the prestigious Faddeev Medal. On 23 September 2024 Prof. Witała received his medal and gave a lecture during a special session of 23rd International Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics in Beijing. Professor Henryk Witała was selected as the recipient of the 2024 Faddeev medal for his life-time achievements in few-nucleon physics, especially for solving the continuum Faddeev equations with realistic nuclear forces and comprehensive studies of three-nucleon dynamics. He also co-authored key papers on chiral forces, which are fundamental to modern nuclear physics. His research not only contributed to the understanding of complex processes in atomic nuclei, but has also provided new theoretical tools that are now being used by scientists around the world.
The Faddeev Medal was inaugurated in 2016 by the Topical Group on Few-Body Systems & Multiparticle Dynamics of the American Physical Society and the European Research Committee on Few-Body Problems in Physics to recognize distinguished achievement in Few-Body Physics. The medal, named in honor of distinguished theoretical physicist Ludwig Faddeev, is awarded every three years to a scientist or scientists who advanced the field of Few-Body Physics significantly, either through ground-breaking research or due to crucial progress achieved over the course of a career.
