FAIR seminars

We are pleased to announce that we are starting a series of research seminars planned at FAIR, Darmstadt (Germany). The seminars will be held approximately once a month, in a hybrid system: live and via the ZOOM messenger.

The series of seminars will be inaugurated by a lecture by prof. Paolo Giubelino (FAIR) Fri “FAIR Project”, which will be held on October 27, 2021 at 10:00 at WFIAS UJ, room A-1-08 (link to Zoom will be provided later)

PPS  awards for popularisation in 2021

The members of the Nuclear Physics Section were awarded for physics popularisation!

The Individual PPS Prize for the popularisation of physics and the Krzysztof Ernst Medal were awarded to:

Dr Izabela Skwira-Chalot

for many years of various popular science activities

and

an the equal, team award of PPS for the popularisation of physics and the Krzysztof Ernst Medal went to:

Prof. Adam Maj with the team (Dr  Jerzy Grębosz and Mr Józef Skrzek)

for the multimedia spectacle and the movie Na styku dwóch nieskończoności.

Prof. Rohoziński passed away

On September 11, 2021, prof. dr hab. Stanisław Grzegorz Rohoziński passed away, the founding member of the Nuclear Physics Section of the PPS, retired professor at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw, vice-dean in 1982-84, long-term director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics. Professor Rohoziński was an outstanding scientist who initiated in Warsaw research in the field of the theory of nuclear collective movements. He gained international recognition for his fundamental works on complete solutions to quantum equations of motion for quadrupole shapes and description of collective excitations in odd nuclei. He was an outstanding lecturer, master, teacher; he inspirits many generations of physicists.

Funeral ceremonies will begin on September 23, 2021 at 11:00 in the church of St. Charles Borromeo on the Old Powązki.
At. 10:00 at ul. Pasteura 5 (from the Cyclotron side), a bus will be provided, which will provide transport to the cemetery and back for those willing.
