On February 16, 2026, Professor Jan Żylicz passed away — a legendary personality in Polish nuclear physics, Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw, an outstanding nuclear physicist, and the founder of the Warsaw school of nuclear spectroscopy. He was a teacher of many generations of scientists working in institutes around the world.

Professor Jan Żylicz was a member of the Polish Physical Society and an honorary member of the European Physical Society. In 2005, he was awarded the Marian Smoluchowski Medal — the highest distinction granted by the Polish Physical Society for achievements in physics, including astrophysics and astronomy.

On 9 February 2026, Prof. Wojciech Nawrocik, passed away. He was an outstanding personality in Polish physics—a scholar, teacher and mentor, popularizer of science, and an organizer and administrator of scientific research. Requiescat in pace.
