Open Meeting of the Sections

The Nuclear Physics Section of the Polish Physical Society plans to conduct an Open Meeting of Sections using online tools.

The afternoon of September 28, 2020 (from 2 PM to 6 PM) was selected for the meeting.

The main purpose of the meeting is to exchange information on the activity and number of Polish teams conducting research in the broadly understood nuclear physics and its applications.

Representatives of main research centres will present research teams working in these institutions their activity, as well as the infrastructure they have or are going to build.

After all the presentations, there will be time for presentations by other research groups and a general discussion.

Of course, there will also be time to present the current activities of the PPS Nuclear Physics Section, development prospects and encourage to join the work of this organization.

All interested in are welcome to participate in the Section meeting after obligatory registration.

Registration for the meeting is now open.

More information soon on the Meeting webpage.

Prof. Adam Strzałkowski passed away

With a great regret, we pay our last respect to prof. Adam Strzałkowski.

We remember him as an outstanding nuclear physicist, professor at the Jagiellonian University, a scientist of great authority and teacher of many generations of Krakow nuclear physicists.

A few years ago, the professor spoke beautifully about himself:

The memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:30 in the parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lourdes at ul. Lea; the funeral ceremony will take place on the same day at 13:00 from the gate of the municipal cemetery in Bronowice in Pasternik.

Polish Workshop on Acceleration and Applications of Heavy Ions at HIL

A nationwide training workshops for 3rd year physics students interested in nuclear physics are planned at the Heavy Ion Laboratory of the University of Warsaw on October 18-24, 2020.

The topics of workshop will be:

  • heavy ion acceleration and elements of ion optics;
  • detection of charged particles and gamma rays;
  • properties of atomic nuclei and mechanisms of nuclear reactions;
  • measuring electronics and data collection systems;
  • interdisciplinary applications of nuclear physics.

The workshop program will include lectures and practical tasks to be performed by students.

The experimental part will be held at HIL using unique research equipment installed on the beam of the Warsaw Cyclotron.
