August Chełkowski Institute of Physics together with the Katowice branch of the Polish Physical Society invite to the Energy for All event on 13th of December 2022 (Tuesday).

We are taking up the topic of broadly understood energy in 2022, the year announced by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland as the year of Ignacy Łukasiewicz. The 200th anniversary of the birth of the patron of the oil and gas industry, as well as the current energy situation in the world, encourage  everyone to think about energy security, but also responsible and sustainable development; clean and accessible energy is essential, but at the same time taking care of the quality of life, environment and climate.

On 8^th of December 2022, the Centre for Isotope Methods CEMIZ was opened at the Institute of Physics – Scientific and Didactic Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. The Centre will conduct top-quality scientific research in cooperation with the industry.

The opening of the Centre is the culmination of a project implemented by the Department of Geochronology and Environmental Isotopic Research of the Institute of Physics-CND, co-financed by the Regional Operational Program of the Silesian Voivodeship for 2014-2020 under the European Regional Development Fund.

The aim of CEMIZ is to conduct the highest quality scientific research and cooperation with the socio-economic environment. The laboratory will provide measurement services for the determination of bio content‑ substances in fuels for energy based on renewable raw materials, in foodstuffs and other products containing biocomponents. Analyses for radiocarbon dating, as well as environmental protection, geological and hydrological studies will also be performed.

The Statement of the Board of Nuclear Physics Section of the Polish Physical Society on financing large research infrastructures in 2022.

The Board of Nuclear Physics Section of the Polish Physical Society expresses its deep concern at the refusal to finance in 2022 a large national research infrastructure necessary to conduct experiments in the field of nuclear physics at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the National Center for Nuclear Research and the Heavy Ion Laboratory at the University of Warsaw.

Limiting the access of scientists and students to these research tools, unique on a national scale, threatens to maintain a high level of research and education in the scientific specialty, in which Polish physicists can pride themselves on significant achievements and recognition in the international arena. This is particularly surprising in the face of the publicly declared by the authorities of the development of nuclear energy in Poland, which would be greatly helped by educating a competent community of physicists and engineers experienced in working with nuclear installations in the country.

As representatives of the Polish nuclear physicists associated in the PPS, we appeal to the Minister of Education and Science to restore the possibility of continuing research in the field we represent, using the unique equipment available in the country.
